Why Filtering Your Water is Not Enough  (a/k/a How to Clean Up Your Inner Aquarium)

This is me, reveling in water, in a cenote in Mexico at the Water is Life retreat with Isabel Friend.

The water we drink becomes our blood in less than 5 minutes. We are mostly water (much more than 70%). Water is the blood of the earth and of life, itself. (This is why we look for signs of water on other planets.) Ancient peoples would settle near water. How is it that we have come to take it for granted?

In my holistic health circles, we discuss food all the time. We want organic, nutrient-dense, seed oil-free, non-GMO, and pesticide-free and dye-free food. That’s great. But what are our standards for water?

Generally, we think exclusively in terms of filtering our water. But we don’t often give much thought to our water beyond this stage. We don’t think about our relationship to it and its impact on our health.

I believe it’s unfortunate because it’s short-sighted. As Isabel Friend put it, on the recent Water is Life retreat that I attended, if fish were swimming in murky, unhealthy water, even if we fed them the best fish food, they wouldn’t fare very well. But, on the other hand, if their environment were one of clean, pristine water, and we fed them only barely adequate food, they would still be alright and possibly even thrive.

Our bodies are essentially aquatic terrain.

That’s why I’m convinced it’s time to clean up our inner aquarium.

Isabel suggests that the healthiest, most vibrant water has the properties you see below. The water we drink should be:

  • Foraged – You can find water near you! You don’t have to buy water. (That’s a recent paradigm from how we perceive water in developed countries.) Go to findaspring.org and see what bubbles up.

  • Filtered – Berkey and Brita filters are so-so. They don’t take out some of the more harmful chemicals. AquaTru is my favorite brand. It removes chlorine, heavy metals, and more. No matter what you use, it’s good to use something, though.

  • Structured – Water in nature is constantly moving in vortices and spirals. We should do our best to “copy and comprehend nature” as Victor Schamberger says. Devices like an analemma wand and Leela Q blocs can help revive the water we drink, helping it to go from chaos to order—and become more cohesive on a cellular level.

  • Balanced – If you strip water of its minerals (through reverse osmosis or distillation), it’s important to re-mineralize it. Otherwise, it becomes “immature” and it will seek minerals wherever it can find them (including leaching them from the body).

  • Energized – The environment in which you place water affects its structure. Play music around it. Keep it in a happy location (where you would want to be). Avoid having your drinking water near a wifi router or laptop.

  • Free – Back to the top. Do your best to avoid water in plastic bottles or that comes through right-angled pipes.

Does this give you a better understanding about why filtering water is not enough?

Which of these stages or steps is least familiar to you?

Comment below. I’m excited to share these tools to help us clean up our inner aquarium. We can change our health by the way we take care of the water in and around us.🧡
