DON’T MAKE THIS HEALTH MISTAKE!

This nootropic. That detoxing tincture. This IV drip. That water purifier.

A lot of us in the alternative health/wellness space can get caught up in the same kind of paradigm that trips up those in the conventional space. It’s the idea that there is ONE SINGULAR PILL or a one-size-fits-all solution that will eliminate all of our health conditions.

We didn’t get where we are—many of us fatigued, hurting, anxious—overnight.

What makes us think that we can get out of our fix in one fell swoop?

Convenience has become king—Door Dash, anyone?—but not just when it comes to our food. It also is what we look for when it comes to restoring our health. We want an easy way out—and if there’s a cost associated with it, we expect it to be financial.

THIS is the biggest health mistake of all: outsourcing our health.

It’s based in part in the mindset that healing has to come from an expert, someone other than ourselves. We presume that we can pay someone to heal us—and that healing somehow comes from the outside in.

Here is the plain, unvarnished truth.

There’s something about nature that reminds us of our innate beauty and healing capabilities.

Health is an inside job. And it will cost you EVERYTHING. It’s not easy, but it is simple.

It requires:

  • commitment to movement, diet, lifestyle choices

  • sacrifice, denying ourselves momentary pleasure for a more favorable long-term result

  • awareness that the responsibility to cultivate health is solely our own

Not sure where to begin when it comes to taking your health into your own hands?

Time outside and away from devices can help us tune into what we need most!

Start by cultivating your own deep knowing!

- Take time to be quiet/still each day

- Discover what brings you joy

- Observe how you relate to your body

- Reconnect with nature

It all boils down to growing awareness—your own connection with God, yourself, and the world around you.

I can’t help but think of Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”. She was determined to find help so she followed the yellow brick road to make it to Oz and to find the wizard who could help her get home. Or so she thought. What she discovered was that she had the power to get home all along. She was unaware of her own ability (represented by the ruby red slippers).

You may need to put your phone down (or leave your own yellow brick road) to exercise the awareness/intuition muscle. I believe you’ll find it surprising and rewarding.

Oh, and keep in mind that taking ownership of your health is a process. It may take some time. I have cabinets full of supplements and a fair share of pricey gadgets that have promised to boost my health in a number of ways. And I use them now and then, and take some supplements here and there, as well.

But I’m learning to listen to my body, to hear what it needs and to respond accordingly. I actually went back to sleep the other day, when I checked in and asked “What do you need?” And I heard “Rest.”

Begin to check in and to listen. It’s okay to have guides from time to time. But let’s not look to experts outside of ourselves for quick solutions. Ultimately, health is found within. Make no mistake about it.
